Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground

Someday I will have to remember to bring my phone with me to take pictures of how beautiful the trails are.

For now, you can just imagine that it's beautiful to be riding through crispy leaves in this perfect, cool, Carolina autumn weather.

Happy Birthday, Missy

To my dear, wise, genuine friend, Missy, happy birthday! You inspire me, you get me, I love you (and your baby) so very much.

If 10 is the new 1, 30 is so the new 20.

Piano Lessons

Oh, piano. I doubt you've missed me as much as I've missed you.

But I'm back anyway.

Goals: Recognizable Christmas music this year, Regina in 2011. Ready, Janna?

Cell Phone Pictures Speak Thousands of Words

My cell phone agreement is up, and it's time for a new phone.  Before trading in the Blackberry Storm that houses a record of some tumultuous years, I time-traveled through my Pictures folder.  Here is the abbreviated version:

Good luck drink from the Old Well to start law school. Ready. Summer 2007.

Our new Chapel Hill apartment. Excited! Fall 2007.

North Carolina becomes home. Comfortable. Winter 2007/2008.

We bought a house! Ecstatic. March 2008.

Wedding planning. Commotion. Spring 2008.

Honeymoon. Reality check. Summer 2008.

Flight to NYC to interview for summer jobs. Hopeful. Fall 2008.

Friends during difficult times. Grateful. Winter 2008/2009.

National Championship! Celebrated unaccompanied. Bittersweet. April 2009.

Move to Atlanta to work for the summer...solo. Painful. Summer 2009.

Euro-trip with sister. Cathartic. August 2009.

The only picture I got of the Tower. Favorite. August 2009.

Sister visits me in my new apartment. Dizzy. October 2009.

Lovely night with an important new friend and a good man...trying to start fresh. Naive. Halloween 2009.

Gaga and the New Year with great friends. Trying. December 28th, 2009.

New roommate, new year, sacred friendship. Learning. Spring 2010.

End of law school, time to explore. Nervous, exhausted, determined. July 2010.

Israel. The beginning of clarity. August 2010.

Minutes before I left PK in Tel Aviv to catch a plane home. Ugh. August 2010.

San Francisco. Leaf, turned. Joy. September 2010.

Carrburrito's, North Carolina. Right. November 10, 2010.

I think it's time for a new phone.

No Internet at Home = Better Breakfast

If you take away a girl's internet,
she will travel to the coffee shop.

(Ok, fine, it's more a bakery that serves coffee.)

And if you put this girl in a coffee shop (bakery),
she will find a scone.

The scone was terrible.

The University of the People

I believe in public education.  Today, I appreciate my University of North Carolina not only for my extremely low in-state tuition degree, but for experiences like this

and for $10 student tickets to most performances on campus. $10 to see Wynton Marsalis and Mitsuko Uchida? Awesome. Our tax dollars at work.

Also, HAPPY BIRTHDAY, GRAM!! Gramps, not that you don't spoil her everyday, but take good care of the ol' lady today. Love you, Gram!

How Did You Get This Number?

Three pieces of evidence that the book I just finished was great:

1) It was given to me by a great friend who knows/shares my taste,
2) I hugged the book when I finished it, and
3) It is now in an envelope to be sent to another great friend.

Ladies, invest in a Sloane Crosley book.
Dudes, you may like it too?
